The Black Hawk State Historic Site in Rock Island, Illinois was one of several historic sites closed on November 30, 2008 by Illinois Governor Rodney Blagojevich.
Rock Island is the former site of the city of Saukenuk, the capitol of the Sauk nation.

Children who grow up here, as I did, are taken to the museum on school trips and it may be one of the few times they are exposed to accurate information about Native Americans.
