Berkeley Homes has scooped two awards for its former Ministry of Defence complex at Royal Arsenal.
It won a prize at the Building for Life awards last week and will be presented with another this month by the British Urban Regeneration Association.
The firm’s development on the historic former munitions site south of the Thames has already attracted 3,000 residents.
The company has also recently submitted plans for another 3,700 homes, as well as leisure areas and a new Crossrail station.
The regeneration has involved construction work on Grade I and II listed buildings.
The Building for Life judging panel, chaired by designer Wayne Hemmingway, said last week the development was a very courageous regeneration project in a deprived area that integrated its historical buildings well.
Berkeley is also due to be presented with a BURA award on November 25, for the first phase of its Royal Arsenal project, which included the construction of 1,250 homes.
It also built a gym, museum, cafe and a delicatessen at the site.
Managing director at Berkeley Tony Pidgley said: For more than a decade as we have worked on this site, we have shared BURA’s goal with huge enthusiasm.
Like BURA, we want to see life brought back to towns throughout Britain, spurring inward investment and higher standards of living.
We are delighted to receive this award for Royal Arsenal, where we have made every effort to enhance the site’s substantial heritage and provide the amenities, transport links and economic foundation for an altogether bright future.
The result has been an imaginative renovation of the former Ministry of Defence site with the sympathetic addition of new buildings in the midst of many listed buildings.
The development has also brough positive benefits to Woolwich town centre including improved transport links via Thames Clipper services and new bus routes.
Mr Pidgley added: Our regeneration of the historic site has given Royal Arsenal a real sense of place, something to which we and our customers aspire.
This is one of the most significant groupings of Grade I and II listed buildings for residential use, which we have restored working closely with English Heritage.
Royal Arsenal is now a vibrant new community which already has around 3,000 residents and it will only grow as a destination as we continue the regeneration of the area.
