Artists just live to stir up controversy. First, Guillermo Vargas’s alleged starving dog in Central America (note to snopes.com: I believe that one needs its status updated to ‘hoax’).

Now, as found on Gizmodo and embellished by The Art Newspaper (all three of us apparently use the same photographer), a couple of guys at the Museum of Modern Art have used stem cells to grow a living, mouse skin jacket.

Sadly, the jacket was growing too big, too fast, leaving the unfortunate curator to make the tough call to pull the plug. Says the poor curator:

I’ve always been pro-choice and all of a sudden I’m here not sleeping at night about killing a coat…That thing was never alive before it was grown.

Still, though, better she be wracked with guilt than the alternative, in which the overgrown mouse sweater is fended off by angry torch-and-pitchfork weilding villagers.
