Check out “Eliphante,” a sculptural home-turned arts museum in Cornville, Arizona that is the product of 28 years of hard work by artist Michael Kahn and his wife, Leda Livant. The New York Times online has a great slideshow, showing parts of the house, as well as some of the creative/constructive processes. Included in the house are an outdoor summer kitchen, extensive stained glass artwork (seen below), a piano built into a wall of driftwood, and more. Not to mention that the home resides on small river that the couple uses to canoe. All very cool; check it out: Eliphante (thanks Katya!)
Robert Fitzpatrick, director and CEO of the Museum of Contemporary Art since 1998, has become international managing director of Haunch of Venison, a 6-year-old gallery for contemporary art with spaces in London, Zurich and Berlin. Mr. Fitzpatrick, 67, stated when he took the position that he would stay no more then 10 years in the position and has proven his word literal. He is now moving to New York, where his new position would be to oversee the fall opening of a 20,000-square-foot branch of the Haunch of Venison gallery at Rockefeller Center. February is only a day away and I was thinking about some of the stuff coming up that I would really like to do/see. Yeah, the team might be pretty horrible but I still think basketball is one of the most fun sports. I miss the days of the awesome threesome (Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman!) ripping up the court. The United Center is one of the better places to see an event in Chicago. Not much can compare the the ‘Starting Line Up’ where lights, flashes, noises, and music blast through the entire stadium. And although the team is sinking faster than me in a pool of frosting and ice cream. Hopefully I can get to a game soon! I really miss the days of Michael Jordan and watching a team that excites you so much you watch on the edge of your seat. There is a free month going on at the Art Institute of Chicago and as close as I live, I think I have only been there once in the past few years. It’s such a great place to visit. Right now there is The Art Institute of Chicago I’m not even sure what this is about yet but I’m anxious to see it. The sculpture will be built behind the bean and and has some pretty large proportions. I’m also excited to see the photography exhibit that accompanies the sculpture… however, I am not at all looking forward to being out in the negative two degree Chicago weather! Well, I am about to pass out but these are just some of the many, MANY things I hope to accomplish/ take advantage of in Chicago this February. If you have any other suggestions let me know!
